Moving your Studio Favorites and Playlists

A walkthrough of the in-app Studio import. How to bring your Studio playlists and favorites into Cargo as Collections, what comes over, and what doesn't.

Before You Start

Note: This applies to Greyscalegorilla subscribers who used Studio and want their Studio playlists and favorites carried into Cargo (as Collections).

  1. This import is separate from installing Tools (Cinema 4D plugins) through Cargo.
    If that's what you're looking for, see How to Install Tools Through Cargo instead.

  2. Materials, textures, and HDRIs content come over. Models don't.

    1. The import brings your Studio playlists and favorites across as Collections, but 3D models specifically aren't part of what it can map into Cargo. Models were completely textured for Cargo, so they no longer match 1:1 to what was available in Studio.

    2. If your Studio favorites or playlists include models, expect those to be the pieces left behind.

  3. Keep your Studio library around if there's any chance you'll reopen a Studio-era scene.

    1. The import doesn't touch anything on your drive, it only adds to Cargo.

    2. It never re-downloads what Studio already placed on disk, so if you later delete your local Studio assets, any scene that still references them loses those material paths, and there's no way for Cargo to bring the files back.

    3. If you've already archived those old projects for good, you're safe to delete the library whenever you're ready.

What You'll Need

  • An active Greyscalegorilla subscription billed through Greyscalegorilla. The import reads your Studio library from your Greyscalegorilla account, so it needs that subscription to be live. If your Greyscalegorilla access comes bundled through a KitBash3D subscription instead, the import won't be available to you.

  • Cargo's desktop app, installed and signed in with your Greyscalegorilla account.

  • Studio playlists or favorites to bring over. If you never used those features in Studio, there's nothing for the import to do.

Running the Import

  1. Open Cargo's desktop app.

  2. Go to Collections

    OR

  3. Go to Settings, then Software. Look for the section headed Import from Greyscalegorilla.

  4. Start the import. It copies the way your Studio favorites and playlists were organized across into Cargo as Collections

  5. Your playlists become Collections, using their existing playlist names. Your favorites bundle into a Collection named Favorites (Studio).

  6. When it finishes, head to Collections to see what came over.
