Getting Started
Q: How do I install Greyscalegorilla Overscanner?
A: Through Cargo, Greyscalegorilla's app. Open Cargo, go to the Tool page, click Install on Greyscalegorilla Overscanner, then restart Cinema 4D. See Installation in the user guide for the one-time Connector setup.
Q: Where is Greyscalegorilla Overscanner after I install it?
A: It is a camera tag. Select a camera and choose Greyscalegorilla > Overscanner to add it, or use Tags > Extensions > Greyscalegorilla Tags > Overscanner Tags > Overscanner. See Installation.
Usage
Q: How do I resize my frame?
A: Add the tag to a camera, type a new Width and Height, pick an anchor, and click Apply. See Quick Start.
Q: Will my composition move when I resize?
A: No, that is the point. The pixels already in frame stay identical and the resize reveals or trims scene around your chosen anchor. See Overview.
Q: What is the difference between absolute and Relative?
A: Absolute means Width and Height are the target dimensions. Relative means they are pixel deltas to add or remove. See "Add or remove pixels".
Q: What does the anchor do?
A: It sets the fixed point the resize grows from. Center grows evenly, edges and corners hold that side. See "Choose the anchor".
Q: Sensor size or Focal length, which method should I use?
A: Sensor size scales the film aperture and is the default. Focal length scales the focal length instead. Both keep the in-frame result consistent. See "Pick how the camera compensates".
Q: Can I undo an overscan?
A: Yes. Click Revert to step back through up to 20 changes, or use normal undo. See "Step back through changes".
Compatibility
Q: Does this work in my version of Cinema 4D?
A: Greyscalegorilla Overscanner works in Cinema 4D 2023 through 2026, on Mac and Windows. See Requirements / Compatibility.
Q: Does it work with Redshift?
A: Yes. It works with any render engine, and if your camera has a Redshift camera tag with an aperture override on, Greyscalegorilla Overscanner writes the Redshift aperture too. See Requirements / Compatibility.
Q: Does it work on non-perspective cameras?
A: Yes. On those it scales zoom automatically, and the Method choice is greyed out. See "Pick how the camera compensates".
Troubleshooting
Q: I clicked Apply and got a message about a camera or render setting.
A: The tag must be on a camera with an active Render Setting. See Troubleshooting in the guide.
Q: It warned me about animated values.
A: Your aperture or resolution is keyframed. Greyscalegorilla Overscanner overwrites only the current frame. Confirm to continue. See Troubleshooting.
Q: My framing drifted after several overscans.
A: The offset math is exact from a zero film offset and can drift over repeated overscans on a camera that already has offset. See Troubleshooting.
Licensing
Q: What do I need to use Greyscalegorilla Overscanner?
A: An active Greyscalegorilla or Everything Bundle subscription. Greyscalegorilla Overscanner installs and stays licensed through Cargo.
